Creative Commons (CC)

Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal tools to help creators easily share and license their work under standardized terms. Ask yourself:

  • Do you have something creative to share with the world?

  • Do you want to maintain ownership aka Intellectual Property (IP)?

  • Do you want ensure how it's used, distributed, and/or modified?

Be Creative

  • Make something new -or- find something you've already made.

  • Make or find something you want to share

  • Ensure you have ownership of it. Ask:

    • Are any of the elements borrowed from another source e.g. a font, source code, etc.?

    • Was this created on equipment you own? Or equipment with shared-ownership? e.g. lab computer vs. friend's computer ?

    • Is there proof that this originates from you e.g. meta data on file?

Instructions

  1. Make/share anything creative that you own.

  2. Create a Google Doc page

  3. Upload it to the Google Doc page

  4. Use CC chooser tool to determine with license is right for you.

  5. Fill out appropriate fields

  6. NOTE: From Google Docs, click "Share" and get URL for Link to Work field

  7. Take screenshot of the license

  8. Upload screenshot of the license to your Google Doc
