Overview

  1. Choose your business structure (LLC, Corporation, etc.)

  2. Select and reserve your business name through the Secretary of State

  3. Appoint a registered agent (can be yourself if you have a WA address)

  4. File formation documents with the Secretary of State

  5. Obtain an EIN from the IRS (free at irs.gov)

  6. Register with the Department of Revenue for state taxes

  7. Get necessary business licenses - varies by location and industry

When you're incorporating in Washington and your business will operate in Spokane (or other participating cities), you'll check a box to add the city endorsement to your state business license application. It's a convenience feature that saves you from having to file separately with both the state and the city/county/state.
