Overview

• Practice answering a Request for Proposal

• Practice creating designs using For Placement/Position Only (FPO) content for later purchase approval

• Practice estimating the investment of time into a project bid

• Practice and understand how licensing works for things — you do not own

• Find and collect trusted resources for fonts, images, and assets

Scenario

The Dept. of Design or DOD would like to recruit High School, College, Non-Matriculated, etc — anyone who wants to study Design. We've been given a budget to create a 8.5” x 11” color flyer and print 1000 copies. We'd like to use premium fonts, images, and assets — created by other Designers — because we believe Designers should be paid for their work.

Your task is create a bid with a draft-design and estimated costs — for later purchase approval — of fonts, image, and assets.

You will be paid for only 2.5 hours of your time.

Requirements (aka rubric)

• A professional design that captures the attention of future designers

• 8.5” x 11” in full color with optional bleeds

• Determine necessary content, images, etc. for the flyer

• Create a slogan, catchphrase, headline, etc. for the flyer

• Use the DOD logo

  

• Use FPO placeholders for fonts, images, and assets

• Calculate the licensing costs. DO NOT list free resources.

• Use provide spreadsheet to calculate costs for 1 year.

Content

• Find and include any imagery

Process

💡 Find licensed resources, then determine its costs for ONE YEAR.

• Pick your preferred page layout tool

• Find one licensed font. Then use a free similar font for the design-mockup.

• Pick one licensed image. Then use a watermarked image or similar image for the design-mockup.

• Pick one asset: vector, texture, brush, icon, etc. Then use a similar brush, texture, icon, etc. for the design mockup.

• Use provide spreadsheet to calculate costs for 1 year.

• Export to PDF

• Submit (to Canvas)

• A single Designer, Design Company, and design-flyer will be chosen by the DOD

Copyrighted Material

Now, find copyrighted and licensed image, font, and asset from any vendor, e.g. Adobe Stock, Getty, etc.

💡 Find licensed resources, then determine its costs for ONE YEAR.

⚠️ This is a bid. The DOD will not be responsible for any accidental purchases of fonts, images, and assets.

• Font: Find a replacement that must be purchased or licensed for one year?

• Image: No free images. How long can this image be used for one year?

• Asset: Will we own this asset after purchase?

• Calculate, how much will cost to run this flyer — for 12 months — 1 YEAR?
