Exercise: Analog Style Tile

Analog. Hand Made. Physical.

Reminder this is an analog, hand made, and physical Stile Tile. NOT Digital. E.g. draw, cut, glue, paint, etc.

This analog Style Tile will:

  • Establish a creative process to your Design Thinking

  • Guide your design decisions on the project and give it (Art) direction

  • Ensure design decisions are well thought out and intentional

  • Define rules — that can be explored, bent, or broken

    • Rules must first exist, before rules can be broken

Instructions

  1. Review what Style Tiles are and their purpose in Art Direction

  2. Use provided templates from Lecture. OR download and print.

  3. Complete each section of Style Tile template

  4. Bring to class for review

  5. Use this Style Tile on your next Project

Sections

  • Stylized Name: Draw your name. Stylize it. Make it unique to you.

  • Art Direction Goals:

    • What emotions should be evoked by your design?

    • What mood are you striving for?

  • Words and Sentences:

    • Write your Story.

    • What story do you want to tell about yourself?

  • Color Palette:

    • Find the tools to make your palette e.g. pens, markers, paint, etc.

    • Create a color palette that supports your Art Direction and Story

  • Points & Lines:

    • Your pens, markers, paint, etc. make different points and lines

    • Explore these points and lines

  • Textures and Materials:

    • Paste images or draw textures to support your Art Direction and Story

    • Materials have surfaces e.g. shiny, rough, etc.. Paste image or draw these surfaces.

  • Shapes & Patterns:

    • What shapes and patterns support your Art Direction and Story?

    • Draw these shapes and patterns

  • Images & Icons:

    • What images and icons support your Art Direction and Story?

    • Paste or draw the supporting images and icons
