My ideal school would be one that teaches all of the elements of design while allowing students to incorperrate their own ideas and truly step into their own on their way to becoming the best design majors that they could possibly become, I also think that it would be incredibly important for the school to support their students no matter what avenue they choose to go down in their life/careers even if that is not the path of design.

Student B

would teach the steps it takes on how to become a true designer. By how to present your work, grabbing ideas from magazines, like how we cut out different font sizes. You would learn what colors go well with each other, different measurements for drawing different shapes. You would be shown on what tools you would use and how to use them. The tools I would give you would be a ruler, a protractor, a measuring board and pencils, binder with paper to sketch out your ideas.

Student C

I think the ideal school for design would include courses on the history of all the different aspects of design. More specifically, I think it should include say the history of fashion design, the history of practical design, logo design, architecture design, etc. Perhaps a way to do this is to go over literal physical examples of these different aspects in practice. I feel as though one of the best ways to learn is from the examples of the best to do it.

Student D

My ideal school that teaches Design would be a school that has a variety of classes and programs that thoroughly teach all different kinds of design styles. There are so many different design styles and themes out there that it would be beneficial to dip your toes into all of them so that you have that knowledge to utilize. Teaching different styles and also the history of design expands students' viewpoints and knowledge of design. Teachers can teach these subjects by having specific classes for them and going in-depth. Teachers can also have students try out these different styles themselves so that they know how to work with those styles. Teaching the origin behind design is also beneficial knowledge to have because it's important to know the background of where these design types come from.

Personally, my ideal school that teaches design quite literally is EWU and that's mainly because I've done a good bit of research and found that this school has an amazing design program. The other reason is that being born and raised here in Spokane Washington, both campuses in Cheney and Spokane are extremely close and comfortable to home. The final reason as to why this is personally my favorite and the one school I wish to go to for design is because my mom went here to EWU and by going here, I feel as if I'm honoring her and her legacy in a way while also being able to experience the things she did and have something to talk about with her even with our generational differences that at times make communication and connection difficult.

For me, the ideal school for design would cover almost if not everything about design. I think in a perfect world with an infinite budget, a perfect design school should be able to teach everything about design. Beginner friendly classes for those that want to get into design is a great start, then having later down the line students can take classes that teach more specific fields, like typography, design history, and even game and character design.

Student G

My ideal Design school would be where you are rewarded for thinking outside the box. Too often I have felt restricted with assignments in certain classes. It feels less like I'm designing, and more like I'm following a checklist. I would also like having more time for feedback. I sometimes I feel like I'm submitting something and guessing that it is close enough to what my professor wants. I currently feel like that with a project I'm working on. I like how it looks, but will my professor?

I personally would love a bigger animation program. I want to be a 3D animator and having way more advanced classes on that would be awesome. I would want to be taught about certain aspects of design -- why something works. How to make something that works. Teaching things like color theory. Analyze design and get to understand what that designer was thinking, why they designed it. Still mostly focusing on animation -- successful camera angles, colors, timing, etc. Even how to successfully go through the process, to maximize your time and skills to be able to create something amazing but also in a good manner.
