Engagement

I understand, an Engagement grade will consist of three different scores for Attendance, Participation, and Canvas.

Attendance and Engagement

Weekly attendance grading of the twenty (20) quarterly sessions. Participation is not possible if absent. Note, Students are allowed 1-excused absence.

  • 5 Points = 0 Absences or 1 Excused Absence

  • 4 Points = 1 Unexcused Absence

  • 3 Points = 2 Unexcused Absences

  • 2 Points = 3 Unexcused Absences

  • 1 Point = 4+ Unexcused Absences

Participation and Engagement

Attendance is key to Participation. Active participation is required peer-groups, discussions, critiques, and lab exercises. If relevant, a Peer Evaluation score will be included. Design is a collaborative discipline. Students will practice working with their Peers to simulate being on Design teams, communicating with Clients, Stakeholders, Subject Matter Experts, et al.

  • 5 Points = Regularly Participates with 0 Absences / 1 Excused Absence

  • 4 Points = Participates with 1 Unexcused Absence

  • 3 Points = Occasionally Participates with 2 Unexcused Absences

  • 2 Points = Rarely Participates with 3 Unexcused Absences

  • 1 Point = Does Not Participate with 4+ Unexcused Absences

Canvas and Engagement

Canvas provide metrics called New Analytics for: Page Views, Participation, and On Time submissions. Students will be provided an aggregate score comprised of each metric.

  • 5 Points = Far above class average scores

  • 4 Points = Near/Above class average scores

  • 3 Points = At class average scores

  • 2 Points = Below class average scores

  • 1 Point = Far below class average scores

For example, this Student would receive a score of 5. The student scores are green-dots, and course average are blue-dots.

Example A: Student metrics ABOVE class average

For example, this Student would receive a score of 1. The student scores are green-dots, and course average are blue-dots.

Example B: Student metrics BELOW class average
